The small phone market may be down to its final embers, but a select few makers are still making compact flagships. It might be just a matter of time before all we have are huge phones, but for now let’s enjoy compact phones while there are still some around.
This is the vivo X300, and it may just be a member of an even more exclusive group – the compact flagships that are actually available outside China. While vivo has not yet confirmed its exact plans the existence of a global ROM and the promises that the X300 series will be the most widely available in the company’s history speak volumes.

Looking at the X300 next to the bigger X300 Pro gives you a good idea of just how small the non-Pro is. At 6.31 inches upfront and 8mm in profile, the X300 is a lovely thing to handle. It’s just right at 190 grams, too.
The smaller phone shares most of the characteristics of the X300 Pro, though the camera island has a distinctive, fluid sloping edge. There’s very little edge to the camera island.
vivo X300 and the X300 Pro side-by-side
Speaking of, the cameras on the X300 are a step down from the Pro, but you’re getting a premium system nonetheless. We’ll give them a thorough test once we get to them (it’s a bit of a long queue of devices at the moment), but the 200MP main shooter, 50MP 3x zoom, and 15mm autofocusing ultrawide sound very good on paper.
We’re also fans of the switch to the 50MP selfie camera we love in the X200 Ultra.

Let’s finish things off with an unboxing. The vivo X300 ships with a better package than the Pro! You get a color-matching case, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a 90W charger as well!
