The Chappell Roan Controversy Is Nonsense, But The Memes Are Good

8Views

Pop princess Chappell Roan is in the midst of another controversy. The “Good Luck, Babe” singer has been accused by soccer player Jorginho Frello of making his 11-year-old stepdaughter cry after a security guard confronted the girl and told her she was “harassing” the singer by walking past the table where Roan was eating breakfast at a hotel in Brazil where they were both staying. Frello’s claim asserted that Roan had deliberately had her own security intercept the girl, but the singer says that she never even saw this child and that the guard in question wasn’t part of her personal security.

Roan has put out an Instagram story on the situation and spoke out against the guard’s actions, saying it was “unfair” for him to assume she didn’t “have good intentions.”

“I do not hate people who are fans of my music,” Roan said. “I do not hate children. That is crazy. I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming that you would do something, and if you felt uncomfortable that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”

In the years since Roan’s big break in 2024, the singer has had multiple instances in which addressing the public to assert her privacy has inevitably led to accusations that she isn’t grateful for her fans’ support. Ultimately, that’s all bullshit because no one, no matter how famous, deserves to have their life upended because they’ve become a public figure overnight. Now, Roan has a new accusation against her: that she doesn’t like kids. This all sounds like a huge misunderstanding, but the internet has made a character out of her, so the memes about Roan hating kids will persist…and at least some of them are good.

I guess as long as the folks aren’t going to be normal, it’s good that at least they’re funny. Anyway, Chappell, I’m excited for the next album. Whenever it shows up.
