A rumor circulating online that Disney World and Disneyland are planning to remove all villainous characters, like the Evil Queen, from the park and only have them appear during the Halloween season moving forward isn’t accurate, according to Disney representatives.
Earlier this month, people online began sharing clips of the Evil Queen at the Disney parks telling guests to complain to management over her seemingly being removed or replaced. Two clips in particular went viral on TikTok and elsewhere, with many believing that the cast members were actually upset that Disney was removing them from the parks. This morphed into a larger rumor that Disney was going to remove all villains, not just the Evil Queen, from all of the parks, a story that was picked up by The Daily Mirror and other online tabloids. Random online users who totally worked at Disney “confirmed” these rumors. And because everything is part of the culture war, some even suggested this was Disney removing scary characters because…I don’t know, something-something woke. But it turns out this was all nonsense.

Both MickeyVisit.com and Attractions Magazine were told by Disney spokespeople that the parks had no plans to remove the Evil Queen permanently from either popular park and called the rumors inaccurate. The outlets were told that while villains do appear more often during Halloween, they would remain important parts of all Disney parks all year round. And while it is true that which characters appear at the parks changes from time to time, this is normal. Who is currently at the parks rotates frequently, and is not part of some nefarious plot to remove the Evil Queen.
So why were the actors angry about being removed? Well, the explanation lies in their job title. You see, they are acting. They are paid to interact with fans and have fun with them. And so some of the character actors, knowing they are going to be rotated out soon, played around with guests and had their characters react in anger and protest to the change. The Evil Queen in particular has a history of being catty, vain, mean, sarcastic, and nasty. And people love it!
I mean, if Disney really was nervous about keeping villains around at their parks, then why would they currently be planning to open up a whole area dedicated to bad guys and gals? That doesn’t make much sense. Just like this rumor. So don’t worry, the Evil Queen ain’t going anywhere for long.
