iPhone 16e and vivo V50 are official, Nothing Phone (3a) is coming, Week 8 in review

Apple has a new iPhone member – gone is the SE, say hello to the iPhone 16e. “e” for “economical”? Not if you’re in Europe, where the phone starts from €700 – $599 if you’re in the US. The iPhone 16e has an A18 chip, 8GB of RAM, a 6.1-inch display, and a single 48MP camera on the back – Apple says it does lossless 2x zoom. The phone has Apple’s long-rumored first-ever in-house developed modem, the C1. It also supports satellite connectivity, including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via Satellite.
The iPhone 16e will only be available in white and black. It went on pre-order on February 21 and is shipping on the 28.
While on the topic of Apple, we saw speculative first renders of the iPhone 17 Air and 17 Pro. The Air is expected to be the only Titanium model in the lineup, and have a visor-styled camera island with a single camera. The 17 Pro and Pro Max will also have a visor-esque camera island, only a much bigger one, with three lenses in it. For the 2025 generation, Apple allegedly wants to bump that up to 35W for all four models.
Apple may be moving away from using titanium for its Pro models, but the Air has additional considerations.
Nothing teased the Phone (3a), confirming it’s coming on March 4 and it will have a larger sensor 50MP main camera, and a new 50MP 3x periscope zoom camera. Nothing showed off what the phone can do in a camera shootout with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Vivo unveiled the V50. It brings a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and a 6,000mAh battery with 90W charging. It has two cameras on the back – a 50MP wide and a 50MP ultrawide. Open sales are scheduled to begin on February 25 from vivo India’s official online store and partnering retailers.
