El Michels Affair have announced a new album, and the Brooklyn-based soul group tapped none other than Clairo to appear on the lead single, “Anticipate.” It’s the first preview of 24 Hr Sports before it comes out September 5 on Big Crown. Give the new song a listen below.
El Michels Affair and Clairo decided to get back into the studio after working together on her 2024 album Charm. She’s not the only musical guest on the new LP either. Rounding out the list of featured artists on El Michels Affair’s fifth studio album are Norah Jones, Shintaro Sakamoto, Dave Guy, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Florence Adooni, and a few others.
In writing and composing 24 Hr Sports, El Michels Affair were inspired by the fashion and graphic design of ‘80s and ‘90s Sports Illustrated magazines, MF DOOM’s Special Herbs series, and gospel music in the style of Pastor T.L. Barrett. It follows their 2023 studio album Glorious Game, in which El Michels Affair partnered with Black Thought of the Roots for a collaborative effort.
