Not Uncle Joey! Fans of the 90’s hit show ‘Full House’ got a shock on Wednesday (Nov. 13) after learning that Dave Coulier is battling stage 3 cancer. Speaking on the ‘TODAY’ show, the 65-year-old revealed that doctors diagnosed him with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma a little over a month ago.

How Dave Coulier Is Responding To His Cancer Diagnosis

Coulier revealed that his diagnosis happened about five weeks ago. Further into his ‘TODAY’ interview, Dave Coulier revealed that the cancer is B-cell lymphoma and a “very aggressive type.” He added that the last five months have unfolded “really quickly.”

Dave Coulier suspected something was wrong after finding a growing mass in his groin area. It went up in size within “five days,” he said. His initial bloodwork showed that “everything looked great.”

He finally learned about the cancer after getting the mass surgically removed and tested. Scans also showed hot spots inside his body that pointed to the disease. Doctors immediately recommended chemotherapy. Since the diagnosis, he’s undergone several surgeries and crafted a treatment plan with medical professionals.

“…in that time, I’ve had three surgeries, I’ve had chemo, I’ve lost a little bit of hair,” Dave said.

Dave Coulier is best known for his role as Joey Gladstone on ‘Full House.’ He played the funny uncle to Danny Tanner’s three daughters. In reality, he was Danny’s best friend who moved in to help raise Danny’s kids after their mother died. The late Bob Saget, who died in 2022 from head trauma, played Tanner.

Dave’s signature blond hair on ‘Full House’ is not reflective of now. While speaking to Hoda Kotb, he had a short buzz cut. Additionally, he wore a two-piece dark-colored suit paired with a grey undershirt. Still, he managed to tap into that Uncle Joey energy with a lil’ jokey joke about how his appearance had changed since his diagnosis. “I kind of look like a little baby bird now, but it has been a roller coaster ride for sure,” Coulier told Hoda.

What’s Next For Uncle Joey?

Also, in the interview, Uncle Joey shared that doctors discovered the staging of his cancer after going into his bone marrow. What resulted was “good news,” Dave Coulier said. His curability rate went up 90 percent because the cancer hadn’t spread. “So, it’s very treatable,” Dave Coulier said.

So far, Dave Coulier says he has completed one round of chemo, and the second round will take place on Friday, Nov. 15. He will be done with that treatment course by February 2025. If all goes as planned, Uncle Joey said he should be in “total remission by that time.”

“Fingers crossed. I’m treating this as a journey,” Dave Coulier said. “If I can help someone who’s watching today get an early screening — a breast exam, a colonoscopy, a prostate exam — go do it because, for me, early detection meant everything.”
