Two reports Saturday allege extensive efforts by President Trump to bully Georgia officials into supporting his baseless claims of voter fraud: The Wall Street Journal reports that the resignation of Atlanta’s top federal prosecutor just before the Georgia Senate runoffs came after White House officials pressured him out because he wouldn’t back Trump’s fraud allegations, and The Washington Post reported Trump placed a call directly to Georgia’s lead elections investigator promising that he would become a “national hero” if he was able to “find the fraud.”Many are calling this further evidence Trump is unfit to remain president, with the new allegations possibly being further grounds for impeachment. Trump’s obsession over his loss in Georgia led to him sharing messages that state Gov. Brian Kemp (R), who supported Trump in the election, should be jailed. Trump’s loss by around 12,000 votes in the once solidly-red state was a historic one, making him the first GOP presidential nominee to not carry Georgia since 1992. For weeks, Trump constantly tweeted conspiracy theories about the state while his legal team pursued baseless legal challenges that were continually rejected by the courts. Ultimately, his barrage of falsehoods about voting systems being rigged while he continually bashed top Republicans in the state did not pay off in the Senate runoffs. Both of the Republican incumbents lost their seat to Democratic challengers, flipping control of the Senate to Democrats and meaning that Democrats will have control of both chambers of Congress and the White House for the first time in over a decade.
