Several hundred demonstrated against the COVID-19 ‘green pass,’ which was implemented in the country in early December, in central Tbilisi on Sunday.
The procession started from Republic Square and moved towards the government building, with demonstrators seen holding posters and burning an image of the pass.
According to Irakli Abashidze, one of the protest leaders, ‘the struggle will continue until the government takes a step backwards, towards the people, and does not allow people to be discriminated against.’
Mandatory passes were implemented in Georgia since December 1, and allow those fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or recently recovered from the virus access to public places and restaurants, as well as entertainment and shopping centres.
The COVID-19 ‘green pass’ is an electronic document that contains information on the completion of a full course of vaccinations, the timing of the disease or the results of PCR tests.
